![]() it is very very light pine, with a basic smooth finish.ģ I really like it I got what some of the other reviewers did: the playing surface is a little "thin" and you need to be careful not to gouge it if you're actually going to use this as a portable set (travel style). I like to have a little heft to my pieces, so this very dry light pine almost feels like balsa wood. The image also shows a darker wood, almost an oak color. So much so that any little touch will move it a fair distance. But there is no locking mechanism for the board to stay closed, thus it is easy to spill the contents. The pieces, in particular the chess, are VERY light weight. You flip the board to the backgammon side and place pieces on one side and fold over. ![]() Checkers on one side backgammon on the inside.I only give this 3 stars for the following reasons. The storage is a little dicey. This is NOT a stackable 3 part board as the image implies, but a single board. The board is made out of a very light pine that folds in 1/2 for storage.
